Dairy Improvements Increase Since 1906
Fifty years ago high production dairy cows were rare in well managed herds. The Dairy Herd Improvement Association DHIA testing and record keeping pushed progress from 239 cows in 1906 to 1 4 3 6 associations and over 1.9 million cattle in 1962 with averages of 10 796 pounds of milk and 448 pounds of butterfat per DHIA herd. Three core practices cull unprofitable cows feed according to production and select superior stock, plus farmer run, supervised DHIA programs overseen by county and state extension agents with yearly data sent to Washington for analysis.

Forty driving license tests yield 14 passes in Gallipolis
Twenty four of twenty eight applicants passed the State Highway Patrol driver license exams in Gallipolis Post Tuesday. Gene Mather Wellston examiner reported 15 preliminary tests with 14 passes for temporary instruction permits and 13 road tests with 10 operators licenses approved. Tests were set for Wednesday.
