Edward Briggs a 39 year old Hatfield resident died after his car was struck by New York Central train No. 3 at a Hatfield crossing. He suffered internal injuries and a fractured leg. Briggs worked as a tool dresser in the Ruth and Strong oil field and died an hour after the collision. He is survived by his wife a daughter a son his mother two brothers and two sisters. Funeral at Spencer Ridge Church Friday at 1 30 p m burial in Dew Cemetery near Burr Oak.
E. C. Hambleton of Columbus escaped with a bruise on the forehead after his 1930 coach struck a coal train on the New York Central tracks at a Route 13 crossing north of Chauncey at 6 30 p m Tuesday. Patrolmen said the car was wrecked beyond repair and Hambleton failed to stop in time on the icy road.
STEUBENVILLE Jan 23 Thomas J Featheringham 49 a hero of the 1930 Wolf Run mine fire died beneath the wheels of a mine train driven by his son Edward Featheringham a mine foreman riding on the train fell off the train his son could not stop it He was father of nine and had received the National Safety Council medal for his part in the rescue work.
Witness recounts a crash between a skid ding auto and a street car in Cincinnati. One man was killed and two women injured. Miss Mary Fessler, 77, died six minutes later from a heart attack in Cincinnati. In Columbus Lee B. Palmer of Pataskala was elected president of the Ohio Safety Council by safety group representatives.
Senators Borah and Wagner pressed for fuller funding and faster action on the Townsend Old Age Pension Plan and the public works bill. Critics charged the $15 monthly pension plan and $125 million support would not reach all 3.75 million needy aged, while White House plans favored broad distribution of a $4 billion works fund.
Columbus Jan 23 The Enforcement Division of the State Liquor Control Department will be reorganized with E G Mathews given hiring and firing authority. Gov Davey says Mathews will run the division without restraint to improve function. Temporary permit extensions for beer and liquor vendors may last three to six months pending investigation. The governor notes many permits were issued to unqualified holders.
Columbus January 23 Frasier Reams pressed that a mob gang operated from behind the walls of Ohio Penitentiary. The chief inquisitor summoned Warden Preston E. Thomas as a witness and said known hoodlums were allowed to visit Yonnie Licavolt Toledo ex gang leader serving a life term.
In Martinsburg West Virginia on January 23, Amor Trinham rose from courthouse clerk to president of the Berkeley County court after Dunham defeated incumbent William Johnson, who then became janitor when Johnson filled the vacancy.

Rome Rankin, longtime head coach and athletic director at Glenwood High School New Boston Ohio, is named head football and basketball coach at Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College Richmond Kentucky. He has served 11 years in the Glenwood post.
Reports say Mayor Len B McCune is improved after a minor surgical operation in Columbus a few days ago as his family stays by his side.

In Pittsburgh on January 23 a dramatic rescue occurred when 11 year old Dorothy Bartona waved a handkerchief to signal an engineer. The train halted within ten feet of Bobby Dabrick after Elizabeth saw him fall on tracks in Elisabeth. She shouted for help and then waved the handkerchief to trigger the air brakes. Bobby was saved.
Eighteen people indicted by the January Athens County Grand Jury were arraigned before Judge F. Rowland. Three pleaded guilty and were sentenced. nine cases set for trial. five earlier arraignments changed to guilty with one sent to the Ohio State Penitentiary. Multiple defendants faced various charges with bonds set and trial dates listed.
In Marion on January 23 32 year old Marcellus Jensuns was convicted of grand larceny for stealing a purse. He testified he discarded the bag believing it to be empty and faced sentencing in the case.
