The Athens County Board of Commissioners on Monday reduced the jail matron's monthly pay from 365 to 35 to cut expenses as delinquent taxes rise. They cite lower funds this year and tax collection issues caused by miners and Jerseyville road residents. The matron, Mrs William Willams, also draws 60 for cook 60 for helper and 30 for each blanket, totaling about 187 monthly.
