Demobilization debate from Washington dispatch
David Lawrence notes military leaders face criticism over overseas mutinies and delayed demobilization policy. He argues Congress and the War Department should clarify plans, suggests expanding the Marine Corps to 500000 for Pacific replacements, and says Europe can rely on volunteers while recruitment for the Pacific remains the key challenge.

When a strike becomes rebellion in England
William Collins argues that Britain moving to state control of coal mines marks the Labor regime’s first major step toward socialism. He warns government ownership would shift workers from servant to master, predicting harsher government suppression of strikes and contrasting the private coal sector in the United States where miners can protest without facing government-led oppression.
