Wickersham to Explain Law Commission Work on Air

George W. Wickersham, chair of President Hoover's Law Enforcement Commission, will explain the commission's work in a radio address over WRC and NBC stations Wednesday night. The talk is announced by Mrs. H. R. McVay of the Athens League of Women Voters. The timing is set for 8:30 p.m. EST, followed by a half hour, with the regularly sponsored program on the voters' slate at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Toledo Couple Perishes in Gas Tragedy

In Toledo on January 20, Etton Saylor and wife Zella were found dead from gas asphyxiation in their home. Twin brother Albert Saylor and Ira Besancon discovered the bodies after the dog Cinders barked at a window for hours. The bulldog was found unconscious nearby.

Tragic Crossing Crash Ends Young Churchgoer Life

In Toledo on Sunday night Miss Evelyn Shock 16 daughter of Rev. J W Shock pastor of Oakdale United Brethren Church was killed when a hidden swivel engine struck their car on the Terminal Line Crossing. Three companions Clifford Heebsch 21 in critical condition William H Schafer 17 and Annabelle Meeker 16 injured all returning from services.

Union-press report: New York attorney RR Ed Maxey sues Warden P E Thomas for 466000 claiming false imprisonment at Ohio Penitentiary. Athens County Board Approves 1500 for Bovine Tuberculin Test

At the morning meeting the Athens County Board of Commissioners approved 1500 to promote a bovine tuberculin test in Athens County. The Athens County Agricultural Society accepted the sum after seeking 2500. State and federal agriculture departments will provide further funds with cooperation pledged by officials. Road delegations from several townships presented petitions but no formal action was taken.

The Hague January 20 The Hague Reparations Conference adopted and signed the protocol to put the Owen D Young reparations plan into operation. Doctor McCafferty Dies in New York

Dr. Lawrence K. McCafferty 39, adjunct professor of dermatology at Columbia University, formerly of Chillicothe Ohio, died in New York City from a fractured skull after slipping exiting a bath tub in his apartment.

Four Day Romance Bloomed Anew As Bride Returns

In Columbus on January 20 we report that Harry Morgan a Zanesville ex service man and his four day bride Helen Roberts of Dayton renewed their marriage after a missing funds incident. Morgan had said his wife ran away with 1000 dollars to finance a trip to Arizona for his health. Police later jailed Mrs Morgan at Springfield she confessed taking 360 dollars and asked for another chance. She was released and the couple reunited in Zanesville with Morgan still planning the Arizona trip.

Boy Hero Dies After Ice Rescue Near Galion

Jan 20 Galion Ohio reports 14 year old William Todhunter, a Galion High School student, drowned after rescuing Miss Blossom Burgett and Mrs Edward Hocker who fell through ice in the Galion Reservoir. Todhunter leaped to save Burgett and vanished beneath the surface, later dying from exposure and water in the lungs despite rescue efforts.

Laughlin re-elected head of Athens Township Trustees

Fred Laughlin of Rome Township was re elected president of the Athens Township Trustees Association at a Saturday meeting. Clarence Wolf of Waterloo Township was named vice president and C C Moore of Athens Township was elected secretary and treasurer. Wolf plans to attend the state convention of township trustees in Columbus January 30 and 31.
