Thousands of visitors stream into Washington from across the nation to begin the inauguration buildup for Dwight D. Eisenhower. A mammoth parade, receptions, concerts, and church services mark the lead up to the noon Tuesday oath on the Capitol steps.
Egypt announces a nationwide roundup of communists tied to a planned conspiracy with Wafdists to overthrow Premier Mohamed Naguib. Army officers and civilians are jailed, with at least 25 officers and 15 civilians detained as authorities move to halt a seditious plan timed for January 23 during a four day anniversary celebration.
Communist night fighters shot down two U S Air Force B 29 Superfortresses during heavy raids on North Korean bridges and rail lines. Far East Air Forces said the losses, the first in four months, were not disclosed in detail to protect crews.
Former Ambassador William O Dwyer said he and his wife have separated and that the outcome rests with ecclesiastical authorities. A Catholic church certificate authorizes separation while a canonical study is made. He provided copies to press associations and confirmed authenticity but offered no further comment.

Pomeroy telephone rate increases approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio will go into effect with the next statements issued around January 22. Gen Telephone Company of Ohio area manager C A Bowen said the Jan 7 approval will reflect in bills soon, noting past increases since February 1952.
Pittsburgh Junior Chamber of Commerce named Benjamin F. Fairless, chairman of U S Steel Corp, its 1952 Man of the Year. A board of 41 leaders selected him, to be honored Thursday at the Jaycees banquet. Fairless rose from an Ohio coal miner’s son to head the nation’s largest steel company.
Wooddsfield Ohio sheriff says two escaped convicts have confessed to killing Adams County Sheriff Ben Perry. Charles Hikelberry Jr., 24, Antioch, admits firing the fatal shot. William Vandale, 27, Washington County, admits being with him. Arrests followed a daylong manhunt after they escaped London Prison Farm December 29.
President elect Eisenhower remains firm on nominating Charles E. Wilson as defense secretary. Senate Republicans delay confirmation to Wednesday after questions over Wilson’s 2.5 million dollars in GM stock and legal conflicts for a federal officer with a firm doing government business. Wilson, who left GM for 25 thousand dollars, seeks to retain the GM stake as Hagerty confirms no change in plans or his desire to serve. Eisenhower departs New York for Washington for his January inauguration.
A federal court jury in New York remained deadlocked Saturday in the conspiracy trial of 13 Communist leaders. The six men and six women began deliberations Thursday after a lengthy trial that started April 24. They must decide if the defendants knowingly conspired to advocate violent overthrow or pursued change by peaceful means. A previous federal jury convicted 11 leaders on the same charge three years earlier in about seven hours.
A Miami to Boston passenger train of the Atlantic Coast Line crashed into a freight train near Fleming, Georgia, about 3 a.m. in dense fog. Seven people were injured, two critically, as three locomotives derailed and four passenger cars left the track. Flames confined to the freight caboose and an empty Pullman.

Dillon 43 chairs Dillon Reade and Company a banking firm chosen on the recommendation of John Foster Dulles secretary of state designate. AUTG TRAIN COLLIDE Edward Host 35 of Lakeside Ohio killed when his car struck a Baltimore and Ohio freight train near Siam.
Boston AP three years of FBI work on the 1950 Brink's Inc. cash heist ending with a grand jury no indictments. Two Massachusetts cases remain unsolved with nearly two million involved. A Danvers truck theft of 681000 in the same period adds to unresolved federal questions. Witness cooperation and disguised participants hindered progress.
Averell Harriman warned in a farewell report to Congress that Ceylon will ship 250000 tons of strategic rubber to Peiping over five years. He said Ceylon preferred the deal with the Chinese Communists because they pay 40 percent above world market price and instead sought a $50 million U S aid program as a condition for selling to the United States.

Allies and German sources say former allies like Foreign Minister George Dertinger were arrested. Jakob Kaiser predicts Grotewohl could be next. Grotewohl met cabinet members and Deputy PM Otto Nuschke amid rumors of looming removal.

Emory Rogaski 39 of Chauncey appeared at the State Highway Patrol station unharmed.
Paul D. Simmons, 44, reportedly confessed to killing and robbing 85 year old Benjamin Shook at his Laings Monroe County farm home. Shook’s charred body was found in the basement after Simmons allegedly shot him with a shotgun, stole $1500, and set the victim ablaze.
Glen Shelton Orren Jr 34 of Texas altered his plea from innocent to innocent by reason of insanity through attorney E A Moats. He was jailed on charges tied to attempting to break Western Union safes in Chillicothe while fellow suspect Albert E Johnson 26 of Matagorda Texas pleaded guilty.
In Ohio, 28 year old gunman George Boss who killed a Cleveland policeman died in the electric chair at Ohio Penitentiary Friday night. Funeral arrangements were planned in Gallipolis and Glouster.
