Cape Canaveral report says the Atlas, the U S arsenals’ most powerful missile, roared through clouds in an attempted intercontinental test. An expected Washington announcement was pending on whether it matched last November’s 6000 mile ocean span success. The Atlas Moon, after relaying Eisenhower’s holiday greeting, remains silent as it heads to burn up in the atmosphere within five days. The launch started a 16 000 mph space flight with a 30 minute target reach if successful.

State Highway Patrol reports Lloyd Russell Schaal 29 Logan Route 3 died on arrival at Hocking Valley Hospital after his southbound auto struck a concrete bridge on Route 664 north of Route 33. The accident occurred about 3:45 a.m. amid a snow covered road. body taken to Leonard funeral home. Schaal lived with his mother Mrs. Floyd Williams and had no children.
Alfred Timothy Miller Jr. five and Bren da Sue Miller seven perished when a coal stove exploded in their rural home six miles east of Ironton. Their parents and six other children escaped. the father is badly burned and hospitalized.

Santa Maria Times reports Mike Pappas four year old with a congenital heart defect will need a March 27 operation at St. Vincent's Hospital Los Angeles. The hospital requires at least 60 pints of blood priced at 25 a pint and will accept two pints in trade for each pint needed. The community at Vandenberg Air Force Base and Crippled Children's Society help covers costs and blood donors have offered 200 pints. Mike's mother Lynne Pappas is divorced and living with her parents in Arroyo Grande. she left work to care for Mike as the community steps in to aid.
Oakland California July incident reports Cmdr Ralph Fielding firing his aircraft eject button by accident at 150 feet. He escaped with a broken leg and no head injury while the parachute opened 14 seconds after activation. He credits a nylon elevator for saving him. Martin-Baker seat rep notes first emergency ejector in its British developed seat.
General George Marshall, 78, suffered a slight stroke at his Pinehurst home and is in satisfactory condition in a hospital near Fort Bragg North Carolina. Doctors said he was stricken Thursday night and transferred to the hospital for treatment.

He said he did not want to kill anyone. Two people, Mrs. Jack Little and Roland Page, were fatally shot amid a long feud over a backyard pool.

The award was announced at the closing session of the Ohio Fair Managers Association's 34th annual convention in Columbus. First vice president Russell W.
