County backs Athens Conservancy grants to protect land
Athens County Commissioners wrote letters supporting three Clean Ohio Conservation Fund grant proposals by the Athens Conservancy. Proposals would conserve about 125 acres: roughly 90 acres from Don Morris and Pauline Giannaras in Carthage Two along Henderson Road and about 35 acres from John and Caroline Enoch in Troy Two to expand Skunk Run Nature Preserve to 75 acres. A third grant would fund summer staff to remove vines at Blair Preserve near Strouds Run State Park, with a projected budget around $26,000. none of the grants would require county expenditures.
