Karr Named New Director of Bank Pomeroy

Horace Karr prominent local contractor was elected to the board of directors of the Pomeroy National Bank at the annual meeting. native of Meigs County and Chester High School graduate, he formed the Karr Construction Co. and developed Royal Oak Park near Five Points.

New Haven Student Wins Lions Essay Contest

William L Capehart of New Haven won the New Haven Lions Club Peace Essay contest receiving an engraved certificate and a $5 check. He advances to district contest with a $50,900 global prize possible. Capehart, 29, studies at West Virginia Institute of Technology, son of William B Capehart. the essay titled Hand, The Key to World Peace.

Mystery Bird Seen Over Jackson Avenue in Point Pleasant

Mrs. Mabel McDaniel of 30th Street Point Pleasant reported glimpsing a dark flying creature as large as a plane with a manlike stance and wide wingspan while driving on Jackson Avenue around 5 p.m. Wednesday. She is the mother of Mrs. Roger Searberry, an early Mason Monster fighter. Hunters have since reported unusually large owls in Mason County.

Employment Services Outlined At Meigs County Meeting

A Meigs County Improvement Association session highlighted plans to request part time employment service workers in Meigs through the Columbus Bureau of Unemployment Compensation. Frank Knox explained agency work including job placement, referrals, testing, and a mobile youth team for interviews and counseling. Richard Sayre described a summer Youth Corps program and a six month training grant for low income youths, noting minority representation and successful placements. Woman Hurt In Accident Near Route 33

Pomeroy resident Mrs Doris H McDonald aged 40 sustained abrasions and lacerations when her car veered off Route 33 four miles south of Route 681 and rolled onto its left side. She was treated at Veterans Memorial Hospital and cited for speeding by the State Highway Patrol.
