British forces under Field Marshal Sir Archibald Wavell push into Burma from India facing stiffened Japanese resistance. In the Pacific, Australian air units are credited with likely sinking a Japanese light cruiser or destroyer.
Four Japanese Zero fighters were shot down and one American Wildcat lost as Japs attacked dive bombers in the central Solomons. Waterloo Iowa Navy reports five Sullivan brothers all in service aboard the cruiser Juneau were missing in action after its loss in November. The men were George T. 29 Francis H. 26 Joseph E. 23 Madison A. 22 and Albert L. 20 all from the same family.
