Fire causes $11,500 in damages to Athens home
A cigarette smoldering in a trash basket sparked a fire at Mrs. Laura Jones’s home on Terrace Drive. Firemen arrived at 7:22 p.m. to heavy smoke and flames. loss estimated at 7,500 for the house and 4,000 for contents. A separate car fire occurred later in a University Terrace parking lot due to a backfire through the carburetor.

Four Indicted by Athens County Grand Jury
Four persons were indicted Wednesday by the January term Athens County grand jury according to County Prosecutor Michael Nolan. Indicted are Michael Kevin Dillon for second degree vehicular manslaughter. Edward E Barker for issuing a bad check. Dean Browning for embezzlement from a former employer. Douglas Moore for theft from Athens Bottling Co. Others faced no indictment. Arraignments set for the next Common Pleas Court session.
