Neal Bowman, long labeled public enemy No 1, was executed this morning in Kentucky ending a decade of terror in the region. His career of crime culminated with his final conviction and impending death sentence.
Neal Bowman aged 33 a Southern Ohio gangster and once Public Enemy No 1 died in Kentucky electric chair at 12 07 a m CST He had claimed innocence for the 1934 shooting of 16 year old Conner Franklin whose body was found at Herrington Lake Bowman a Chesterhill Ohio native began crime in Columbus in 1925 and escaped from Lima Hospital in 1933 later committing robberies kidnapping an Ohio sheriff and serving time in Ohio Penitentiary on burglary and larceny charges
Funeral services were held Tuesday in Columbus for Mrs Bertha Brush age 81 who died at her home Sunday. She spent her girlhood in Trimble and was sister to the late A Biddison of Trimble the late William Biddison Glouster and the late Thomas Biddison Maplewood. A sister Mrs Sarah Dupier Clearce W Va is the last of the immediate family. Mrs Dupier is the widow of the late Thomas Dupier former Athens County commissioner.
Mr. Pearl Sapp of Athens underwent a minor surgical operation at Sheltering Arms Hospital on Thursday. Mrs. Edgar Partee of McArthur entered the hospital Thursday for observation.
Columbus officers say Tony Gerbitch confessed that he and Robert Berry participated in a $7 robbery and the fatal beating of Willard Deckard on December 6. Gerbitch told detectives Berry struck Deckard and all three men drank before driving to a suburban road where Deckard was found dead in a snowy ditch. They allegedly took a watch and the money.
Ohio agricultural expert predicts farmers will cooperate with a proposed Little AAA program to replace the invalidated Agricultural Adjustment Administration. H C Ramsower of Ohio State Extension says the plan will be voluntary soil conservation and crop rotation. Extension staff begin county planning with committees of 15 or more farmers to inventory soil, crops and livestock.
Bessie Clench Conaly aged 19 pleads guilty to abandoning her two year old child on arraignment before Justice Fred Millis. Bound over to the Grand Jury on a $500 bond and returned to county jail in default. Officers transported her from Hamilton, Ohio to this county on Wednesday.
No trace of thieves who broke into a WPA tool box at Goose Run Wednesday night. Sheriff Stratton said the lock was forced and several tools disappeared. That same night a battery and tires were stolen from Levi Combs's automobile parked at his Sugar Creek home.
Kansas City police respond to a caller who reports a sea lion named Babe weighing 350 pounds roaring outside a filling station. Officers find the animal swimming near a truck and note Babe does not make sounds after feeding. owner Captain Greenwood explains sea lions do not elect.

Rio Grande merchant Dan L. Davis aged 67 died Thursday afternoon after more than 15 years of service in the town. He was the second local merchant to die within months, following A J Clark who passed away last summer. Surviving are his wife Zella Tanner and children Mrs E Gordon Boster Columbus Missouri Elmer McCarley Rio Grande Orville Davis Union Furnace and Dr Harold Davis Shelby. He was brother to Mrs Charlies Tanner Gallia Mrs Mary Buckie Mrs Elizabeth Morton and Vinton Davis all in the West and John W Davis whose address is unknown.
Seven men, suspected members of the Rebel Ice Corporation gang, were arrested today in connection with the August 1934 armored car robbery outside the Rebel Ice Corporation in Brooklyn, where $427,000 was stolen.
