County Budget Cuts Narrow Sheriff and Recorder Budgets
Gallia County commissioners cut two department budgets in a Tuesday session, reducing sheriff and recorder allocations. The sheriff’s pay total dropped from 13 000 to 10 000 for 1957, with Deputy Wilma Anderson’s pay cut and employment slated for removal, possibly eliminating the office secretary. The recorder’s office also saw deputies’ pay trimmed from 5500 to 5100, plus a small vacation pay adjustment, while other departments kept most requested funds. The action aligns tax rates with state, with mileage reimbursements set for county employees.
