Stocks Move Narrowly As Mixed Opening Sets Tone
New York stocks opened barely changed amid mixed trading. Washington reportedly considers taking over remaining British holdings of American securities, helping explain lingering underperformance of shares versus rising industrial activity. Major names listed include Amer. Can, Chrysler, Goodyear, Procter and Gamble, United Airlines, Sears Roebuck, Westinghouse, and others with fractional gains and losses.

Gallia County Agent E G Royer says a Columbus report listing him among 16 defendants in a $110000 damage suit filed by David Bennett came as a surprise. Bennett claims undue influence led to his wife leaving him. Royer, a former Ross County assistant, has no acquaintance with Bennett.
