Rudy Evans 36, was shot dead in a Nash ville area store five hours after the robbery as one bandit paid him with a five dollar bill and drew a pistol.

Charles T. Stephenson 68 of Logan, former Hocking County recorder and probate judge, died after an appendectomy and kidney complications at Cherrington Hospital. A Republican, he served as county recorder, probate judge, and later Falls Township justice of the peace. He worked 43 years with railroads and lost a leg in a 38 year old collision. He leaves a wife, nine children, a sister, and a half brother. funeral arrangements pending.
Los Angeles. Assistant Secretary of War Louis Johnson denounced a proposed Ludlow war referendum law as harmful to U S diplomacy and executive power. He warned the measure would hamstring Roosevelt in Panay bombing negotiations and force the president to voice personal views instead of the nation.
Richmond Indiana report states Walter C. Marcum age 30 will be arraigned alone Saturday on kidnapping charges for abducting 3 year old John Bryan son of a Centerville banker. His partner Harry C. Walters age 50 killed himself by jumping from the rail outside their jail cell.

Walter Davis Tucker 45 a rural mail carrier died at noon Thursday at his home 196 West State Street after a stroke. He served since May 8 1922 carried Rural Route 2 including Sugar Creek and Peach Ridge. He is survived by his wife one son Joseph three sisters Mrs J L C Kelley Athens Mrs John South Canonville Mrs Benjamin Cornell Shawnee and one brother Charles Mansfield. Funeral arrangements were not completed Thursday afternoon.
Officers guarded the home of William Heistand Eaton banker today over a reported kidnap attempt targeting his 10 year old daughter Barbara Heistand. Marjorie McIntyre age 19 was accosted on her way to school by a man asking if she was Barbara and told her to say nothing.

The Ohio Senate approved 10.5 million dollars in relief appropriations for 1938 after brushing aside Gov Davey’s proposal for seven and a half million with dollar for dollar local matching. The body also passed a six and a half million bill from sales tax receipts with local matches and approved a .65 percent utilities excise tax with revenues earmarked for relief.
