President Roosevelt sent a budget message to Congress outlining a near 1 billion dollar relief and debt increase for the coming fiscal year. The plan separates emergency relief from regular federal activities and includes a large potential deficit, with final relief figures to come after reviewing spending and tax implications.
President Roosevelt’s 1937 budget message projects lower work relief costs, higher total receipts and reduced expenditures. It urges employers to boost employment and calls for new taxes if Congress approves charges not in the budget. 1937 receipts are slated at about 5.65 billion with 6.75 billion in expenditures, about 893 million less than 1936.
