Pay Board splits over aerospace workers salary hike in Washington
The Pay Board failed in its third attempt to cut a 12 percent raise for about 100 000 aerospace workers and set another meeting amid a 10 to 5 split. Labor leaders questioned the board’s power to set a figure, with business members seeking a reduced raise. Public members suggested veto plus standards to guide revision. The dispute involves UAW IAM members at six firms. In a separate action the Justice Department obtained a temporary restraining order blocking an Elizabeth New Jersey landlord from evicting a tenant who refused to pay 195 for a similar apartment, the first such action since Phase 2 controls began last November.
