Martin Ohlinger 79 a former Middleport bakery operator died from head injuries after a Saturday night crash on W Main St in Pomeroy. Frank Leifheit of Middleport suffered head injuries and a throat cut and was in serious condition at Holzer Hospital Gallipolis. The car skidded near Parol Service Station as Leifheit steered toward Middleport. an observer reported the vehicle was not moving fast.
London reports veterans from Chinese forces are being sent to Malaya to block the Japanese advance toward Singapore as part of a planned unified Southwest Pacific command under General Wavell. The move is seen as a crisis aid until Britain and the United States can rush troops and arms to the Far East.
A New York Central train struck a motor car at the Main Street crossing in Huron Saturday, carrying the automobile down the tracks for a half mile and killing 50 year old Robert T. Horne of Miami Florida, who had been employed at the Plum Brook ordnance plant.

A Lehigh Valley Night Flyer passenger train hauling gold collided with a stalled car near Pittston Pennsylvania. One passenger died and 13 were injured as seven coaches and the locomotive derailed along the Susquehanna River bank trapping hundreds of passengers for over an hour.

John Wimmerstedt 21 of Youngstown died in a passenger train crossing mishap at Struthers. Harry Minor 52 of Richmond Indiana died on Route 35 west of Eaton in a vehicle train crash. Norman Leaf 24 died in a Saturday vehicle train crossing near Cincinnati. William J Watt 56 Bainbridge race track watchman was fatally injured by a machine on Bainbridge Road near the Cuyahoga Geauga county line.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation plans a facility expansion in Cleveland. Agent in charge Lee V. Boardman was not reached for comment. Tenants in an office building reported they were being asked to relocate to allow moving the local headquarters to a higher floor, adding 17 more rooms for FBI use.
