Chicago detectives reveal how a kidnap plot unraveled after Mrs. Georgia Gecht used charm to trap captors. Seven men, including a reputed leader and a prominent attorney, are held as evidence is prepared for grand jury. Prosecution seeks death penalty.
In Columbus on January 4 Mayor Henry Worley defies state law by not enforcing 1932 license plates. State officials including Chalmers R. Wilson and Belknap planned to meet Governor White. Wilson dispatched 14 motor vehicle inspectors to warn tagless motorists and prepare arrests if needed. Worley denounced Secretary of State Brown for enforcing the law, saying he will not allow it to run his office.
Columbus Ohio January 4 no salary or wage reductions and virtually no layoffs in trimming the state welfare department 1932 budget to meet a 15 percent saving directive from state finance director Howard L Bevis. McSweeney says savings come from other operating costs while maintaining inmate care. The 22 penal and mental hygiene institutions will be reviewed by their managing officers this week or next.
The Federal Parole Board, meeting this week, considers Albert B Fall’s parole after over five months in New Mexico state prison. Board members A P Wood I B Tucker and Dr Amy N Stannard expect to receive a parole recommendation from New Mexico authorities. The action coincides with Fall’s eligibility since last November.
The state highway department announced additions to the state system in Columbus. New routes include Guysville-Stewart branch and Glouster-Murray City Road linking Athens County towns. Washington County gains a state highway connection from Beverly to Vincent. Meigs County receives two sections toward Letart Falls, with a Glouster-Murray City segment 5 miles long. The extension ties Route 78 to 286, 33 and 216, shortening travel between state highways.

In Youngstown on January 4, police investigated two dynamite sticks found in front of a Wood Street home amid a prior nitroglycerin package sent to Italian American leader Attilio Rosapepe. Mr and Mrs Benjamin Vasquez discovered the sticks on Sunday, six feet from the house, suggesting they were not thrown from a passing vehicle.
Chicago report details the deaths of two children after nurse Mary Roth suffocated them with gas and hanged the infants in a basement closet before she killed herself. Physicians cited delusions that the children would be taken from her despite no stated reason for losing her position.

Bryan farmer Ezra Bell was shot in the head and chest during a card game at his home near Edgerton. Sheriff Ragan pursued the unnamed shooter as investigators tied the incident to a prior sniper report involving Kathleen Carver. Housekeeper Emma Shepherd was wounded in the shoulder by shotgun fire.
In New York prominent Italians engaged Michael Fiaschetti, ex city detective, to lead an independent probe into bombing plots. Fiaschetti heads a private agency and rose to prominence with the Italian squad. Police and postal inspectors also pursued the Easton Pa bombing, with a cabinet maker believed to have constructed the mail boxes.
