Minster's Wife Tale of Donation Party and Parsonage Woes
In a rambling reminiscence the narrator relays a tale told by Miss Meliena Mix about a pastor Ormsby and his wife. The church built a parsonage with help from trustees and members, but the wife’s conduct and a chaotic donation party led to friction, public embarrassment, and eventual resignation as Ormsby accepted a western church call. The piece portrays communal reliance, gifts given, and scandalous whispers within a small town church setting.

Colosseum of Rome and the baby hippo Daba tale
A vivid account describes the aquarium baby hippo Daba becoming the public favorite while the keeper Doc fights to pull a decayed milk tooth from Baba. After a balk, a second try with forceps succeeds as Baba reacts with calm, then joyfully trots after the keeper. The piece also advertises chromatic prints of Roman scenes from The Centennial and hints at subscription drives.
