The Dies Committee renewed its challenge of President Roosevelt’s cabinet and warned that Communists have invaded the Federal Government. It urged $150000 to continue a two year probe, accusing officials including Frances Perkins and Harold Ickes of hamstringing the inquiry and decrying Nazi and Fascist influence.
The Senate Campaign Expenditures Committee says funds for relief were diverted to politics and calls for tighter election controls and to divorce politics from the Works Progress Administration. It criticizes Aubrey Williams and recommends strengthening the criminal code, limiting political contributions, and amending the corrupt practices act to bar promising work or benefits in exchange for relief.
Rep J Parnell Thomas announced plans to introduce within a week a resolution to impeach Labor Secretary Frances Perkins. The House committee on un American activities renewed its challenge to Roosevelt cabinet members and charged Communists infiltrated the federal government. Perkins allegedly failed to enforce deportation laws and to deport Harry Bridges.
In Cleveland Postal Station B a gang cut through a 15 inch brick vault wall and stole $26 000 in cash, stamps and registered mail during the holiday weekend. Police say the experts were inside five to six hours. They failed to open a small safe containing blank money orders.
Five former Soviet secret police officials were executed after a Kiev military tribunal convicted them of illegal arrests and extortion of confessions. Several defendants testified they forced victims to sign confessions asserting membership in fascist youth groups.
A bandit wearing a red bandana forced three Postal Telegraph Co employees to lie on the floor of the Columbus main office last night and stole $144.92. The robber fled, and no injuries were reported.
Frank Mce Coy aged 67 was killed on Monday when he fell from a tree limb while sawing it on his farm near here and broke his neck in the accident.
