Viet Cong resumed attacks as New Year dawned in Vietnam with more than a score of deaths. U.S. bombing raids on the Ho Chi Minh trail in Laos claimed to have disrupted North Vietnamese plans while a 24 hour cease fire took effect. The Viet Cong violated its 72 hour truce with a raid near Saigon killing 19 as American casualties rose to 41 in the last week.
State official F. P. Neuenschwander and OSU professor James C. Yocum predicted a 1971 rebound for Ohio. Neuenschwander cites a "tremendous building boom" across sectors while Yocum notes a motor industry recovery and steel stockpiling as drivers. Ohio’s unemployment at 3.8 percent trails the national 5.8 percent.
