Tanker Explodes At Alaskan Field

A KC135 jet tanker taking off from Eielson Air Force Base exploded near a guard house and waiting area killing nine people. Seven aboard died, two more perished in the blast that also smashed into the Alaska Highway near Fairbanks. The four engine aircraft carried a pilot co pilot navigator and four technicians during a refueling mission.

Yemen threatens force over British aid to royalists

In Damascus Yemen's republican government said Britain aids royalist forces in Hariri East Yemen and warned it may use force. President Sallal accused Britain of aggression, while Cairo and the British Embassy denied any aggression and said troops only expelled an intruding force from Aden protectorate territory.

Coon Burglar Caught By Springfield Police

In Springfield Missouri Ed Edgar heard a noise and found a masked burglar in a fur coat. The burglar a raccoon mounted a ledge pressed the doorbell with a paw and pulled the handle. Officers took the raccoon to the dog pound.

Marion: Charles F. Parshall 55 received a six months suspended prison sentence and a $1000 fine for defrauding General Telephone Co. on 16 counts of using non existent credit card numbers to make long distance calls. This marked the first prosecution under the 1961 law.
