A Hamilton Common Pleas ruling by Judge Clinton D. Boyd says lands owned but sub let by Miami University are exempt from state taxes. About 1 million dollars in refunds across state, municipal and county taxes may follow, with plans for an immediate appeal announced by County Prosecutor Paul Baden. The decision concerns property taxed for delinquency in Oxford Township and does not affect Ohio University lands in Athens and Alexander Townships.
Columbus liquor director Joseph H. Scobell urges replacing the $1 gallonage tax with a percent levy tied to liquor price to equalize taxation. In his first act back, McCune fined Harry Dixon of Jerseyville five dollars plus costs after Dixon was arraigned on intoxication charges.
In Lancaster court, the state argues that Leland Kinsell aged 4 and not an organic heart ailment killed Edna Kinsell age 4 in a drunken brawl. Prosecutors say Kinsell and another man placed her body in a car and drove to his father’s home in Pickerington Ohio.
Clarence Hampton of Nelsonville is hospitalized in Columbus with serious injuries after his coal truck left Row 31 near Carroll and overturned. Walter Fierres of Columbus, driver of the sedan, is jailed in Lancaster on a driving while intoxicated charge. passenger Guy Barber of Nelsonville drives to Columbus with coal. Other injured include John Eider. Hampton’s leg broken and X rays planned. Hampton family notes multiple prior injuries and illnesses.
Tyler Texas reports W A Strange, 71, was pronounced dead by a physician who later revived him with an adrenaline injection. He then lived six more days while breathing under an oxygen tent before passing away.
In Columbus the Senate Public Works and State Buildings Committee approved a resolution memorializing Congress to build the Beaver Mahoning Canal in Mahoning County by a 5 to 2 vote. Railroad interests opposed the plan citing $9 million revenue loss for their lines.

The state civil service commission has under advisement a motion to reject Governor Davey’s removal of Preston E. Thomas as warden of the Ohio Penitentiary. The motion, filed by Thomas and his attorney D B Ulvey, also seeks dismissal of 17 charges against Thomas.
The Athens County Relief Administration presents a March budget to the State Relief Commission totaling 43 728 80. It allocates 24 245 for food 14 480 for cash work with 4 00 for administration 900 for rent 1 975 for medical treatment and 36 70 for transient relief and has received approval from the county commissioners.
