Washington reports a Senate adjournment after a clash over the Bricker amendment to limit treaty powers. Senator Knowland accuses Democrats of stall tactics to derail Eisenhower measures, while Lyndon Johnson counters the charge and argues Republicans slow the action. Johnson claims Democrats have spoken 37 percent of the time since 1954.
Egypt’s Revolutionary Council dismissed Maj. Gen. Mohamed Naguib from the presidency and premiership. Lt. Col. Gamal Abdel Nasser, 36, was named premier and led the council, with the presidency left vacant and Naguib under house arrest amid accusations he sought absolute dictatorship.
Informant reports say Secretary of the Army Robert T. Stevens agreed to McCarthy demands for information after realizing his orders conflicted with Congress. A planned public showdown was canceled, but the dispute over May Irving Peress’s case remained a looming issue.
The House Appropriations Committee recommended a 12 percent cut to the combined budgets of the State Justice and Commerce departments and the Voice of America. Total for the 1955 fiscal year would be 1,147,638,000, down from 1,313,920,960 proposed by President Eisenhower. Most cuts hit Commerce, notably highway funding and air mail subsidies, while FBI received its full 78,282,000 request.
West Virginia State Police alerted the Ohio Highway Patrol that Gerald E. Conrad 37 was seen in Keyser Virginia driving a blue sedan with a woman about 40. No sign the 7 month old Pamela was in the car. Conrad and Helen Elhose allegedly took the baby from Gill Hospital last Sunday despite a nurse’s protests. Conrad faces neglect charges while the woman is charged with contributing to neglect.
Allan Conrad Treen, 40, of Danville Ohio, faced charges including speeding passing five red lights reckless driving and assault with a deadly weapon after a high speed chase through Jacksonville Florida. Treen reportedly sped up to 75 mph and crashed into a police cruiser in front of headquarters.
Twenty nine people organized by James L. Wick co publisher of the Niles Ohio Times departed by plane for a month long tour of Europe and the Middle East Wednesday showing a news figure of press figures organizing travel plans.
A 13 week series to acquaint listeners with the Air Force ROTC opened Thursday night over Ohio University’s radio station. The program aims to explain ROTC roles and training to the campus audience.
At Holloman AFB New Mexico Air Force researchers test ground speed records with dummies to develop gear for survivable bailouts from supersonic aircraft. Lt. Col. John P. Stapp directs the aero medical project under Air Research and Development Command. Maj. Orley B. Caudill notes danger is an outside chance and volunteers may ride speeds above 750 mph.
Dr. George Davis assistant professor of economics and management at Ohio University was guest speaker for the Bellefontaine Chamber of Commerce retail division. His topic was the value of business fellowships and he has been granted three fellowships with W T Grant Co Sylvania Electric Products and Republic Steel Corp.
In Syria radio reports claim a large part of the Syrian Army has revolted against President Shishekly, with troops in Aleppo seizing the city and demanding his resignation within 24 hours. Col. Hammoud leads the rebellion, accusing Shishekly of tyranny and oppression and seeking exile.
In Copenhagen Danish doctors report a young American, listed as Charlie McLeod last winter, now nearly ready to return to New Orleans as Charlotte McLeod after a year of hormone injections and operations. She recalls a year of hell and notes an Army discharge in 1948 for medical reasons.
President Eisenhower seeks Congressional approval of pay raises and benefits for about 2.35 million federal civilians. Proposals include reclassifying post office jobs with 80 million dollars yearly, civil service pay scale reforms costing around 150 million, unemployment coverage, coordinated retirement with social security, voluntary group life and health insurance, and revised personnel rules including top five eligibility selections.
Henry Ford and Harlow Curtice warned Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and GM dealers across the nation about bootlegging. They said continued wholesaling to used car retailers at discounted prices could cost franchises and hurt direct customer relations and warranty benefits. GM will monitor dealer performance under selling agreements while urging cooperation to preserve franchise value.

Nedra Jane Harper of Bay Village and Nedra Jane Harper of Rittman both stand 5 feet 4 inches and are first sopranos in a 225 voice all state chorus. Their fathers both named Harry Harper.

Standard Brands raised the Chase and Sanborn coffee price by five cents to $1.06 a pound in the latest round of roaster price hikes. New York report notes similar moves by others in the industry.
Dr. Stephen R. Williams, 83, professor emeritus of zoology at Miami University, died Thursday at Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio. He taught zoology at Miami from 1900 until his retirement in 1940.
Columbus police say a 56 year old carpenter, Ralph M. Moran formerly of Parkersburg West Virginia, devised a plan to raise a million dollars by soliciting 192 letters for a cancer hospital near Marietta. He offered a $500 government bond for the best name for the institution and was held for investigation of soliciting without a license. Postal authorities filed no charges after Moran authorized return of all mail.
Two 15 year old Mason County boys admitted illegal entry to Point Pleasant Senior High School around midnight Tuesday. They took two cases of soft drink and left no vandalism. The youths were picked up in Pomeroy after wrecking a stolen 1949 car on Route 33. Footprints matched one suspect's. They were questioned after failing to pay for gasoline in Pomeroy.
Three adults and two children perished in a house fire in Huntington West Virginia. Victims named are Elbie Adkins and his wife, their son James M., and Larry Eu 4 as well as daughter Nell Janet. The blaze trapped them in the old Guyandotte neighborhood.
In Ohio the Public Utilities Commission investigates complaints about dump trucks operating without permits. Alva Grover of Cheshire sought a certificate to haul for a $40 million Cheshire electric plant serving the Portsmouth atomic plant area. The commission refused the certificate, citing failure to prove truck shortages and citing chaotic illegal operations. Grover, partner in Shuler Steam Shovel Co., said many regional trucks lack certification.
A 12 to 3 committee vote clears the way for quick Senate confirmation of Earl Warren as chief justice. Senator Knowland says he will bring Warren's nomination to the Senate soon, with expectations of an overwhelming confirmation vote. Warren has served on the court since last October in an interim capacity after Vinson's death.
In Pasadena California James Roosevelt was ordered to pay his estranged wife Romelie Roosevelt 1625 per month temporary support for her and their three children as the trial of their separate maintenance suits proceeds. The ruling also requires the late President’s eldest son to cover attorney’s fees 3500 and court costs 850.
Secretary of State Dulles told a nationwide audience that the Berlin talks yielded gains and no losses for the United States. He cited Molotov’s last minute concessions and the unrecognized step toward pressuring China to face world opinion, while noting limited progress on Germany and Austria and preparations for an Asian peace conference in Geneva.

The child, apparently unharmed was found about 12 miles north of Mansfield after she had gone to a sundry residence saying she was Kathleen King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Frank King of Authorties presumed some a person had picked the child or im the public library or car there about 9 pum. From what the child could tell authorities it was persealy she made the trip outside the elite in an automobile.
