B F Nigh of the Michigan-Ohio-Indiana Coal association said a wage conference deadlock at Miami Fla would not trigger a near term coal shortage. He cited large storage and sustained non union output to cover six months, with potential impact depending on early purchases by large users and transport limits.
In Canton Ohio a double force guards Stark county jail while Ben Rudner faces imminent execution for the murder of Don R. Mellett. The trial concluded with final arguments and Judge A W Agier delaying the jury charge to prepare a 12 000 word manuscript.

The session, begun at 11 a.m. yesterday, set a postwar record for domestic deadlock over the Swing-Johnson bill to fund a 125.9 million flood control and power dam at Boulder Canyon on the Colorado River. Three filibustering Senators Ashurst Cameron and King spoke long into the night before a blanket order to arrest absentees was issued, leading to a silent, stalling session with 20 to 30 Senators in ante rooms and on the floor. A warrant, issued by Senator Moses, followed the inability to summon missing members. the last such order dated to 1915.
