Sunday School begins at 9 30 am at the Lighthouse Tabernacle in Nelsonville with the pastor Rev W Z Horbury preaching at 2 30 pm and evening services at 7 o clock.
Nelsonville town hall hears Dr. T. T. Brumbaugh discuss Japan Prepares for War. He notes Japan’s population, land use, and resource limits, and argues democracies must recognize other peoples’ rights while understanding Japan’s aim to dominate Asia. Crowd questions follow.
Nelsonville churches will hold World Day of Prayer at the Church of Christ at 2 PM Friday with all women invited. The program includes a sermon on imperialism and colonial rights, aviation talk on Japan, and China’s defense needs. Six high school girls sang The Ramparts We Watch, and next week’s Town Hall will address Democratic aims featuring Ohio University speakers.

Nelsonville social notes report a patriotic dinner planned by Tri Pst Sorority at their apartment next Monday evening at 6 15. Members unable to attend should notify Betty Stewart or Ruth Beckler by noon Saturday. Mrs Charles Ellis of Murray City hosted a Saturday evening 30th birthday for her son in law Roy Bagley at 688 Poplar Street Nelsonville with several relatives and friends attending. An old fashioned house warming for Mr and Mrs James Evans at 680 Walnut St included an electric iron as a gift and a large group of neighbors and friends attended refreshments served.
Nelsonville area draft board No 2 reports 1091 men aged 20 to 44 registered during Feb 14 15 and 16 at seven centers across 11 Athens County townships. Local totals by town include Nelsonville 513 Albany 77 Amesville 101 New Marshfield 108 Coolville 111 Shade 68 Stewart 98. Three men from the area return to duty after prior 28 year limit: Charles McCray Nelsonville Ervin North Lathrop and Dillon Trout New Marshfield.
Retta Howe Sunday School Class of the Methodist Church plans a Friday evening party at Mrs. Beatrice McKee's Walnut Street residence. Assisting will be Mrs. Velma Evans Mrs. Ida Duskey and Mrs. Garnet Schoonover.
Letha Silcott led with 489 across three games in Nelsonville as Letha Lou Shop defeated Brooks Shoes in a Wednesday Ladies League match. Mary Jo Wolf posted the high single score of 183. A later special match features Logan Daily News versus Wolf Bowling at 7. The Louvre is described as the National Art Gallery and Museum of France in Paris.
The Band Boosters Club of Ward Rural High School will sponsor a dance Thursday night February 19 at the gymnasium.
