AP survey of governors at the National Governors Conference shows a large majority oppose Ford energy plans and fear tax increases as federal aid shrinks. Democrats largely back limits on spending while Republicans split. some governors flag higher costs for health and education.
President Ford meets with 12 Republican senators to back his oil imports tariff plan after a 10 day recess. Sen James McClure says the Senate will likely sustain Ford veto of a 90 day suspension bill while debate and a vote loom. A separate Democratic task force proposes an energy program centered on a gasoline tax increase to fund research and conservation.
Seed and nursery firms say 1974 sales topped prior records as soaring food prices push home gardening. Gurney Seed and Nursery and Burpee report 20 percent+ growth. shipments may exceed one million pounds in 1975.
