A dated poem inscribed to BE UH TE by M E B Washburn urging persistence and striving in life. It speaks of enduring trials, justice, victory through effort, and the hope of eternal rest after a weary journey. Ends with a signature fragment reading February 1859.
In a Ceylon mansion a moral drama unfolds as a pale, penitent wife, Mary, and her seducer husband Henry BK F confront a long-hidden crime. The narrator recalls the elopement of Mrs. Francis and Harlow Case, the fate of a daughter lost at sea, and the haunting remorse of a ruined man who sees his companion dying. Mary pleads for forgiveness and warns others to beware, while the tale ends with a solemn judgment and moral admonition.
