The Museum of Fine Arts Boston buys Jackson Pollock’s Number 1 from a New York collector for an undisclosed price estimated at about $160,000. The 1949 work measures nine feet long and features industrial aluminum paint with whiplash lines and loops of black.
Three Hocking Technical College students aged about 20 fell from a boat in the Hocking River near Route 691 after the craft upset in high water from rain and melt. One reached shore, another was aided by forestry students, and the third reached the bank. They were treated and released. none were on a school project.
The finance and service committees met with Jackson Water Co representatives to set terms for selling about one million gallons to the Jackson County Water Cooperative. A rate of 45 cents per 1,000 gallons was agreed, with an ordinance to seek further funding for the project to be presented to the next council.

Chauncey Public Library staff hosted a Valentine Party for story hour children on Saturday with Valentines exchanged. Lois Simpson and Doris Cunningham served refreshments. Sondra Lowry won the Valentine Box. Jacksonville Eagles meet Friday at 8 p.m. with hot dogs served after.
Logan Hocking County commissioners heard a proposal from D T Brumagim and Associates to study a sanitary sewer system serving Murray City and surrounding areas including Buchtel New Town Jobs and Orbiston. The project aims to qualify for up to 50 percent federal grants and loans.
