The Ohio House passed the Davis bill 107 to 13 to force counties to settle debts owed to the state for county ward maintenance. If Senate approves, counties face withholding of local sales tax allocations. 63 counties owed $3.15 million as of Jan 1. Twenty counties owed $2.5 million.
In Columbus the Federal Relations Committee of the House voted 8-0 to indefinitely postpone the Congressional Redistricting Bill sponsored by the Citizens League of Cleveland. Rep. Clark Hunsicker and Rep. G. F. Guthrie led the opposition, arguing the measure would shift three Republican counties into a Democratic district and maintain divided districts while Democrats hold power.
Uncensored dispatches report Gen Francisco Franco’s northern insurgent forces begin advancing toward Madrid from Siguenza about 77 miles northeast. The southern column moves toward Alcala de Henares and Arganda as part of the capital’s potential final battle.

Body of Grant Pullins age 65 found Tuesday at the foot of an embankment on Oak Hill Ridge Road three miles east of Chester Meigs County authorities say no foul play suspected Pullins reportedly fell from the roadside after leaving Chester Saturday night and died of injuries and exposure groceries he bought were found in the road
The Ohio One-House Legislature League plans a constitutional amendment to create a single chamber General Assembly. The group formed in Columbus after a Tuesday meeting with members from several cities including legislators teachers chamber of commerce farmers and labor representatives. Harvey Walker of Ohio State University was named temporary chairman and head of the organizing committee. The panel will study amendments before the General Assembly and draft a league plan for approval.
State Auditor Joseph T. Ferguson said he would subpoena six representatives of distillers in his investigation of irregularities in the state liquor department. Twenty deputy auditors and assistants began work today at the department headquarters on a study of its operation.

Federal Judge Mell G. Underwood ordered removal of Robert Lynch age 35 to face extortion charges in the northern district of West Virginia. Lynch was arrested at Athens last week in an alleged attempt to extort 1500 dollars from John Pertz of Weston.
In a legal ruling Attorney General Herbert S. Duffy says the county poor home superintendent has discretion in admitting indigent persons. The opinion was issued to the Ashland County prosecuting attorney.
Congressional foes of Roosevelt judiciary reform press changes to the Sumners retirement bill raising the age to 75. The move would limit retirements to three justices, while Roosevelt opposes the higher age. Grange and labor leaders vow nationwide backing for the program, with a Washington convention planned within weeks.
