A suitcase filled with dynamite exploded in Clinton Tennessee injuring a Negro woman and an 11 month old girl. The blast damaged a Negro owned restaurant and other properties as white a suspect fled the scene. Police offered no firm link to school integration.
The 27-nation Asian-African group planned a compromise approach in the General Assembly to end French Algerian fighting in North Africa after the top Political Committee rejected full independence rights and approved watered-down talks. The UN stalled on Israel Gaza withdrawal awaiting Israel's reply to a new U.S. withdrawal proposal.
Governor Steve McNichols approved the Daughters of the American Revolution to continue their patriotic program in Colorado institutions. The move came after a DAR official cited a controversial incident where a Mexican boy was not chosen to carry the flag, prompting a suspension request.

Odgen Stevens of Gallipolis Ferry the northbound driver is at Holzer Hospital with rib and right leg fractures and severe facial injuries. Foreman Stevens of Apple Grove and Grover Massie of Glenwood were treated and released at St Mary. Grover Neville of Gallipolis Ferry has a broken nose and internal injuries. The five men were returning home from work. The cars were demolished.
Temperatures will run 2 to 5 degrees below normal with highs 36 to 42 and lows 20 to 25. Colder Saturday and Sunday then a warming trend by Monday or Tuesday. Precipitation averages 2 inches west to ½ inch northeast. Snow or rain expected Saturday and again about Tuesday or Wednesday.

Marietta Ohio hosted the world premiere of Battle Hymn about Col Dean Hess drawing an estimated crowd of 20000 for an afternoon parade Founders Day events at Marietta College featured honorary degrees for You Chan Yang Cecil Underwood and Rock Hudson. The gala parade included civic military and fraternal floats nine bands and appearances by Rock Hudson Dan Duryea Miss Sweden and Jock Mahoney.

The Marietta native and 9488th Air Reserve Squadron commander at Marietta also works as silo sales manager for Marietta Concrete. Governor O Neill and Air Force officials attended the events with pre premiere festivities, a premiere ball and a dance ending the day in celebration of local pride.
Senator Styles Bridges of New Hampshire sharply opposed a proposal granting the president power to veto specific items in appropriations bills. Bridges, head of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, argued against narrowing Congress for veto power.
Cincinnati reports a tragic accident as six year old Thomas Beeckman died after being struck by a car while hurrying home from school. He held a sealed valentine from a schoolmate in his grasp.
The Treasury seeks authority to apply flexible interest rates to savings bonds and raise the rate on Series E and H bonds from 3 to 3 1/2 percent. If approved, new bonds issued after Feb 1 would carry the higher yield, while existing holders are advised to continue holding. For example, a $100 bond bought at $75 would yield about 3.28 percent at maturity.
President Eisenhower urged the Senate to act quickly and approve a military economic plan to help Middle Eastern nations resist Communist pressure. The House already approved the resolution with minor changes including authority for the President to deploy forces if needed. The Senate committees removed the explicit authority clause, replacing it with a general readiness statement.
President Eisenhower accepts the resignation of Robert Tripp Ross as assistant secretary of defense, about a Senate probe into Army contracts awarded to Wynn Enterprises linked firms. Ross says he did nothing wrong but quitting protects the department. The resignation is effective February 20.

Two state senators propose a constitutional change to remove the Ohio voting requirement for administrative appointees. The plan would let out-of-state experts take key posts without living in Ohio a year. Gov. ONeill notes the rule blocks staffing such as a potential head of the Mental Hygiene and Correction Department.
Washington reports the Eisenhower administration plans to move Charles E. Bohlen from Moscow to a new diplomatic posting. Officials say a swap involving ambassadors to Belgium and the Netherlands is possible, with Llewellyn Thompson of Austria possibly succeeding Bohlen.
Stuart Hoffman Perry publisher of the Adrian Telegram and Monroe Evening News died Thursday night in St Marys Hospital after a brief illness. He was 82.
New Delhi sources deny reports that Soviet Defense Minister Georgi Zhukov struck a weapons sale agreement with India. The denial comes from the Defense Ministry amid speculative press reports about defense ties between the two nations.
