Cincinnati residents along Salem Pike reported to county police a juvenile prank that created a wall of fire across a highway. They woke early Saturday to screeching brakes after youths reportedly poured gasoline across the road and lit a flare as cars approached.
A blood test now available to doctors detects C reactive protein to gauge inflammatory diseases. It helps assess severity and needed treatment for conditions including rheumatic fever, pneumonia, arthritis, jaundice, osteomyelitis, some cancers, and the heart killer rheumatic fever. The test uses C reactive protein antibodies to show presence and amount, with sediment forming if present. Schieffelin & Co announced it has produced anti serum in quantities for general medical use.
The Marine Corps will hold a court of inquiry next week to decide if Communist cruelty justified forcing Col. Frank H. Schwable and others to confess to practicing germ warfare. The inquiry will review the case of Schwable among Marines and Air Force personnel involved in false confessions. An Air Force board is separately evaluating the facts and will act only after completing its private investigations.
Sen Stuart Symington told the City Club that losing Indochina would threaten Asia and the entire free world. He criticized Truman and Eisenhower for not informing the public and urged using Korean troops and accepting a Korean Republic offer to fight in Indochina, arguing Chinese Nationalist forces should also be used.
A baby girl with two heads died in Mercy Hospital in Hamilton Saturday an hour after a premature birth. The infant, born three months early, came to term with one body to Mrs. Eana Combs 27 wife of Delbert Combs a shipping clerk. Dr Benjamin Lehman delivered the child and reported the anomaly. Police in Rome removed the Church of Christ sign from its three story building on Saturday after earlier actions in Leghorn as authorities curb Protestant worship. Attorney Rosapepe said the act violated state law and plans to sue. The dispute traces to January when a Catholic priest objected to the sign, amid tensions with Italy’s interior ministry under Mano Scelba.
Fire in Paducah heavily damaged Beyers Garage with 28 new cars. Exploding gas tanks fed the blaze destroying four downtown buildings including a tire store shoe repair shop and dry cleaning plant. Two nearby structures suffered smoke water and wall damage. Loss estimates vary up to one million dollars. In Mount Carmel Pa fire gutted 29 frame houses leaving 45 homeless and causing about 150 000 dollars in damage.
Miss Patricia Kennedy daughter of former U S Ambassador Joseph P Kennedy plans an April wedding to film actor Peter Lawford of Los Angeles. Engagement announced in Palm Beach by Mr and Mrs Kennedy. Miss Kennedy age 26 Lawford 23 is son of the late Lt General Sir Sidney Lawford and Lady Lawford of London.
Jonathan Lock, 33, a father of four, was held by police on an open charge as investigators probe the death of factory worker Gilbert Warniment. Coroner Dr. Siesser ruled Warniment died from a fractured skull and jaw sustained in a fight at the Warniment home after a Friday night tour of local liquor spots.
Senators Bridges and Symington plan a Europe trip to inspect plants building NATO aircraft amid reports of Communist influence. They will study bases for potential atomic bomber launches, visiting England France West Germany Belgium the Netherlands Italy and Spain, departing February 21.
In St Petersburg Senator Bricker named Herman Pflerer a State Department attorney as the man he meant when he said someone in the department was misleading President Eisenhower on amendment 1. Pflger said he had not advised the President. Bricker, in St Petersburg for a Lines in Day ceremony, called Pflerer a scarecrow and said the amendment would be a nationwide campaign issue.
Sixty seven year old George J Schaffer admitted it shook me up a little when a passenger train struck his car and threw it in front of a moving freight train at the adjacent track in Defiance. He walked away from the wreckage near Ottawa Ave crossing as flasher lights operated at the crossing, according to police.
Atlanta VP Carr announces Saturday that RKO Pictures reshaped its board and accepted Howard Hughes bid to purchase the company assets for 23,489,478 dollars or six dollars per share on outstanding stock.

London detectives probe a double murder at a Victorian old peoples home where Isobel Veronica Chesney and her mother Mary Menzies were slain. Investigators recovered 3000 letters spanning 20 years to Chesney plus over 200 empty liquor bottles. the letters were found in three suitcases.
Washington diplomats on Saturday considered Syngman Rhee's threat to march on North Korea a bluff though not sure he meant it as such. They also held slight hope for a Korean offer of troops for Indo China. A French Embassy spokesman said Paris would reject the South Korean division fearing open Red Chinese intervention in Indo China if it joined the war.
