Ohio Governor John W. Bricker used a Lincoln Day address in Philadelphia to warn the nation against government spending. He blamed rising costs for unemployment and said 3,000 Ohio jobs had been affected by fiscal shifts. He urged tax relief and restraint to protect taxpayers and business.
A skeleton found Monday dangling from the topmost branch of a 25 foot ash tree near Shade is believed to be an inmate who escaped from Athens State Hospital last June 21. Coroner Pritchard and hospital officials identified the body as Ward 17 inmate after teeth and sock marking aided confirmation.
Columbus Ohio. The Ohio Minimum Wage Division plans a crackdown on workers who blackmail or threaten employers. New chief James P Walsh said emphasis has been on protecting workers owed back wages, but some employees hired out below the minimum wage during or after collecting back pay.

Joann Herr, 3, of Galion, became the first U S child treated with Type 16 commercial pneumonia serum recently released for sale. The serum arrived by plane from New York to Toledo and then to Galion, with the patient showing immediate improvement after the injection.
In Juneau Alaska rescuers search for six aboard the Marine Airways hydroplane that disappeared in a Sunday storm. An intensified gale driven by ice and wind halted recovery efforts Monday with search parties at Taku Inlet twenty miles south of Juneau.
Ellis Howe aged 30 who shared a $142,000 sweepstakes prize four months earlier with his brother died late Monday from burns suffered January 25 at his place of business.

It authorizes spending about 376 million dollars to raise the Army air force from 2320 to 5500 planes and increase overall forces to about 205000, with 23000 in the Air Corps and a pilot training program costing 10 million per year.
A vandal tore crepe drapings from the entrance of St Andrews Catholic Church in Nelsonville in the early hours of Monday. Patrolmen investigated a man seen nearby as he tried to force a rear entrance and fled up Franklin Street hill.
Charles W. Ward a Leavenworth alum and millionaire businessman faced an extortion plot from Mathew W. Stegbauer and Harold McAvoy. The pair allegedly threatened to link Ward to editor Walter Liggett's murder unless paid 15000 dollars. Ward reported the letter to police and the suspects were entrapped.

Peabody police recall a strange case after 15 year old Russell C. Donaldson of Connellsville Pa. rode in a sealed freight car from Uhrichsville Ohio to Florida bound freight cars, spending eight days cramped without food. He was found in Peabody and treated in hospital, his father noting the boy’s anger at limits on seeing his girlfriend.
Vatican City reports Pope Pius XI laid to rest in a crypt beneath St. Peter's Basilica in solemn rites. About 262nd pope honored as cardinals gather, with Eugenio Pacelli leading as temporary head of the church. Crowds outside observe the farewell with tolling bells.
John Watson a 19 year old from Centerbury Ohio slept in a car while his brother made a call. Patrolmen Morgan and Clifton chased the speeding vehicle at 75 mph. it skidded into a ditch as two men fled. Watson awoke in the back seat unaware of the chase and rescue.
LOGAN Staff Special Irving Krieg age 66 died Monday night at his home after several weeks illness. He had long served as an elder of the Logan Presbyterian Church and previously worked as a clerk at Citizens Savings Association. He never married. Survived by three brothers and a sister. Funeral arrangements not announced.
Diplomatic circles report that Italy will present its long anticipated demands against France in a speech by Premier Benito Mussolini in Turin near the French border next Sunday.
Charles Ross 27 of Cleveland was killed and his wife Marcella 27 injured when their car collided with a poultry truck seven miles south of Plain City today.

A Wilmington agent was kidnapped and robbed with two Cincinnati gas stations held up. Everett Marks and Harold Williams, both 20 from Columbus, were captured after a statewide police alert. Law officers from 200 southwestern Ohio secured the suspects as roads were blocked overnight.
