President John C Baker announces a three-term year-round plan at Ohio University with an 11 week accelerated summer term starting June 18. Freshmen may earn a full load of 12 semester hours and pursue ROTC leading to second lieutenant commissions in June 1954.
General MacArthur visited the western front and warned Tokyo that Chinese Communists still have manpower and supplies. Chinese onslaughts dented lines, sweeping toward Wonju and Yoju, while Allied air forces hit multiple Red formations near Hoengsong Chipyong and Wonju with napalm and guns. Ground clashes were limited, with a notable Allied counterattack west of Wonju and Red tanks reported near the Han north shore and Seoul.
GOP members clash over foreign policy and the so called me tooism while calling for budget cuts. Debates touched on sending troops to Europe and defending McCarthy attacks with some urging unity and others criticizing isolationism. Navy official Dr Urner Liddel told Look Magazine that so called flying saucers were 100 foot diameter plastic balloons used in high altitude cosmic ray studies. He said balloons rose to 19 miles, winds carried them at 200 mph, and sunsets lit their bottoms creating saucer shapes.
Rep Kenneth A Robinson seeks $15000 payment to Ralph Eaches of Richwood Union County. Eaches served 1 year 28 days of an armed robbery sentence for a crime later confessed by another man and was pardoned by Gov Lausche on December 23 1949.
Fort Dix doctors report 558 flu patients in the post hospital yesterday but insist there is no epidemic. They expect about 100 more soldiers with influenza symptoms to arrive today and say the situation is not dangerous or alarming.
Lawrence Wright, 27, of Spencer, died in a Ripley hotel room after an injury from falling against a door frame during a party. Companions Dog Guy Westfall Edith Greathouse and Elsie Batten face morals charges. Authorities noted no doctor was called.
Kenneth E. Champney, 20, co publisher of the Yellow Springs News, was held to the grand jury on charges of failing to report for induction. He pleaded innocent at arraignment before U S Commissioner Charles Ozias and was released on his own recognizance. He refused to register for the draft and was later involuntarily registered, per the district attorney’s office.
A resolution before the Ohio Legislature seeks a constitutional amendment to ban daylight saving time in Ohio. It was introduced by Rep. Arthur JH. Milleser of Harrison and appears as a formal proposal yesterday.

Fresh Allied troops secured five hills east of Sansong while Chinese forces struck five miles southeast of Seoul near the Han. In persistent fighting around Hoengsong two U.S. divisions and a South Korean regiment broke free from a trap as the 10th Corps pulled back. Western front forces held gains around Inchon Yongdongpo and Kimpo Airfield.
Flood waters from the Vermilion River entered Vermilion Ohio business district forcing 70 residents to evacuate last night. At the river mouth water stood three feet above Glinka's boathouse. In nearby Eastlake flood fears eased after the Corps of Engineers dynamited ice in the Chagrin River channel mouth allowing 150 residents to remain in place.
Coroner J. A. McCowan reported three deaths by own action in Washington County over the last three days. Sgt. Edward Martin Jr., 26, of Sitka, shot himself. George Gale Hearn, 22, of Milltown, an Air Force member, also shot himself. James H. Parr, 69, of Newport area, took poison.
Two Cleveland restaurants are charged with Price Freeze violations by the OPS. One listed above ceiling prices on its menu while the other failed to maintain required records at the office’s local headquarters.
The FBI sought the family of First Lt. Donald W. Spencer from Somerset Ohio missing since January 31. He was arrested in Mansfield Ohio and admitted spending most of $12, spread across Miami Florida horse betting. Agents say two claimed winning horses paid off while Spencer claimed he was robbed of $3000. He waived extradition to Virginia after arraignment at a U.S. Commissioner in Cleveland.
French official says four deputies will meet in Paris between March 10 and 15 to set terms and schedule for a foreign ministers meeting of the United States Britain France and the Soviet Union. The deputy talks aim to draft the agenda for the Big Four Conference.
