Nelsonville’s scrap paper drive yielded 10 240 pounds, over five tons, Mayor Miles Howe reported. Severe weather paused collections for weeks. city trucks manned routes. A tin can drive is planned for February 17 with flattening and secure tying or boxing for pickup.
Mrs. Maggie Sweazy 71 widow of Levi S Sweazy longtime Chauncey resident died Sunday. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 10 30 am at the Martin home then at Stout Funeral Home in Nelsonville with further rites Thursday at 2 30 pm at Fellowship Church and burial in a nearby cemetery. Survived by six sons Walter John Melvin Paul Bert George and two daughters Mrs Martin Mrs Ruth Herman and Mrs Clea Kellenbarger and Mrs Iva Cestola plus two brothers George Lenigar Reynolds Lenigar and many relatives including Washburns and Higgins families of nearby towns attend.
Glenford Du Als Post No 229 of the American Legion will meet Wednesday night at 7 30 at the Legion building. All veterans are welcome to attend.
Guy William Tanner, charged with menacing threats against Mayor Miles Howe, appeared in court and pleaded not guilty at arraignment. He was bound over to the grand jury under a 100 bond after an affidavit by Joe Brown alleging Tanner threatened Brown’s wife Eunice and their baby. Brown is Tanner's father-in-law.

Mrs Mary Slish er Dowler of Chaunces received a letter from her husband Private Kas sally C Dowler in First Army. He serves with General Cairthney Tl Hodges First Amit and the 99th Division and says he is well. He has been overseas several months and sends a copy of their Division News detailing their work. He is a son of Eugene Bowler.

Willing Workers Class of the Church of Christ hosts a Friday evening session at Mrs Lena Shafer’s home with Devotional and business time led by Mrs Emily Reed. Various residents attend events and visits. local families travel for illness and family engagements. a dinner meeting of Osian’s Club is announced for 6 15 at the Presbyterian Church.

Albert Hayden, in Belgium, reports his unit captured 20,500 Germans since D-Day.
Seaman 1c Sam Lahugh Chauncey and Seaman 1c William Snodgrass Evansville Indiana left Monday night for New York City ending a 17 day leave in Chauncey visiting the former's parents Mr and Mrs Samuel C Lahugh and other relatives. The boys have been together for 28 months and have been on only two different ships. Seaman Snodgrass has been here on former occasions.

Funeral services for Mrs. William Clary age 70 of Chauncey will be held Wednesday morning at 7 30 in the Church of Christ at Chauncey. Burial will be in the Rush family burial plot. The body lies at the home of her daughter Mrs. Esther Ferrer on Lexington Ave Chauncey where friends may call until the time of the funeral.

A large congregation attended the closing service Saturday night at East Camp Church in Millfield ending an old fashioned revival. Evangelists Rev. and Mrs. D. V. Snyder led the meetings from February 1 at Tarlton. The church holds Sunday night services, Sunday School, and mid week prayer meeting Thursday night with Mrs. Ora Waldeck of Glouster serving as pastor.
Rev Gilbert Courtney of Chauncey will conduct funeral services for Mrs W W Edwards age 83 former Orbiston resident who died at her Jackson Ohio home at Greenlawn Cemetery on Wednesday at 2 pm There will be no funeral service in Jackson Mrs Edwards is survived by several children
