Akron gains service on the Washington to Cleveland army lane with 10 planes and 15 pilots.
Civic clubs business men and many miners in Eastern Ohio protest efforts to remove Earl J Hopple as head of the Utilities Commission. Hopple credited with low intra state coal freight rates and steady miner employment. The Rotary Club forwarded a resolution urging his retention by Governor White.
Fred Meister, 46, of North Canton, reported missing January 26, is in a Canton hospital recovering from a head brow injury and exposure. Local authorities announced the update on February 13. continuous care arranged as investigations proceed.
Beverly Hills dispatch notes Will Rogers imagines what Abraham Lincoln would do today noting he would not chop wood and would align with a Ford trade and a Democratic ticket. Two fatal accidents occurred Monday in the Nelsonville area. Thomas Auflick, a miner from Ashton Avenue, died after being crushed near the Kimberly Mine tipple as he was walking between mine cars. William Green, 68, of Dorr Run, died in an ambulance from suspected shock after a car crash on State Route 31. Coroner L F Jones investigated both incidents with Police Chief George Bateman assisting.
The Ohio Civil Works Administration suspended distribution of federal surplus foods to needy CWA workers across the state. Harry L. Hopkins ordered states to stop free food for families of CWA workers. Ohio will continue food for those on relief lists. About 90 000 families affected.
Des Moines Iowa bureau chief Park A Findley said he located a suspected hideout of the Bremer kidnap gang who held Edward G Bremer a Minnesota banker for 22 days demanding 200000 dollars. He planned to seek federal help to move Bremer to a Craton farm nine miles southwest for identification.
Arraignment of three gangsters accused in the jail raid that freed John Dillinger will occur Wednesday. Authorities say each man has funds for counsel, Chicago lawyers may attend, and a venue change is expected.
Danville Kentucky reports that 30 year old Joseph Waldron an American Airways pilot from Cincinnati was hospitalized near death after his plane crashed in dense fog yesterday near Danville. The crash occurred in foggy conditions and Waldron remained in critical condition as of today.
A small group of Democratic senators loudly opposed railroad education provisions as the 950 million administration relief bill moved toward final passage in Congress. The Senate adjourned after bitter debate over a conference report and a House disagreement on who would run CWA programs. Supporters defended Roosevelt and Lindbergh amid a clash over canceling private airmail contracts. Roosevelt dismissed Lindbergh’s protest as publicity driven.

Socialist Schultebund and Heimwehr units clash with police troops and civilians amid sieges and heavy fighting.
Indiana University athletic director ZG Clevenger said the Ft Wayne conference was harmonious and no contract has been signed with Don Peden. He expected a definite announcement later in the week while Ohio University officials awaited Don Peden’s return and possible talks. Rumors linked other coaches to Indiana, but could not be confirmed.

Thieves entered Theta Chi at 117 Fast State Street ransacking two rooms and taking just under ten dollars from a desk drawer while overlooking more than fifty dollars. Sigma Delta Rho at 93 North Congress Street reported seven dollars and twenty five cents stolen as clothing drawers were searched. Tau Kappa Epsilon at 226 East State Street saw a small amount of cash taken. Watches and jewelry were not disturbed.
Mrs. C. A. Hartley aged 50 formerly Mary E. Spencer died at 7:30 this morning at Butter Hut Avenue Pomeroy from heart disease after a two week illness. She survived by her husband C A Hartley and daughter Mrs Teresa Koester plus her mother Mrs Sarah S Spencer and a stepson Oliver Martley. Funeral at the residence Thursday at 2 pm with burial in Lettart Cemetery.
St Louis, Feb 13. August A Busch Sr head of Anheuser Busch Brewing Co and one of the state’s wealthiest men shot himself at his Grant’s Farm mansion. He was confined with heart trouble and gout when he fired the fatal shot. The chauffeur nearby was tuning a radio when the tragedy occurred. The death is being attributed to possible poor fitness of health.
The Cincinnati Board of Education ruled that married women will be retained in schools but no new teachers with husbands will be hired. The measure aims to limit married female staff while preserving current employees.
Four year old twins Charlies and Frank Cory suffered identical appendicitis within 24 hours. Charles Cory entered the hospital first, then Frank. both had appendix defects and both underwent surgery with successful recoveries.
Columbus February 13 A universal fishing license bill designed to raise more than 500000 in revenue will be introduced in the Ohio General Assembly. The plan imposes a one cent fee for all fishermen over 14 to fund larger fish hatcheries. current law yields about 99000 yearly. Commissioner Reinhart said Governor White approved the measure.
Four long term convicts attempted a dramatic escape from the Missouri State Penitentiary. A crude benzine bomb thrown at a guard tower failed to explode while one man tried to bridge 15 feet from the boiler roof to the wall using a plank. Gunfire from guards scattered the fugitives.
POMEROY Ohio February 13 James Duffy 71 died at his Syracuse home leaving son Thomas and brother Thomas John in Akron Funeral arrangements pending. Mrs Dige Lambert 43 of Harrisonville died at Holezer Hospital after a severe illness eight children survive funeral plans not yet set.
Columbus February 13 four bandits held up the Linden branch of the Ohio National Bank stealing cash estimated at ninety six thousand nine hundred ninety dollars.
