The State Board of Education delayed a recommendation to revoke charters of nine Athens County high schools including Chauncey Dover Exempted Village Glouster Exempted Village Ames Bern Carthage Troy The Plains Rome Canaan Shade Trimble and Waterloo. It also reviewed an ambitious 1970 school improvement plan and a proposal to merge The Plains district with Athens city schools. The board shifted to study action asking the Attorney General to file a brief in a U.S. Supreme Court case on Bible reading and prayer in classrooms. John Morrison of Aurora proposed the action, noting 19 other states backing similar moves.

All Year School Use Proposed in Ohio Legislature
Columbus bill seeks year round school use through three terms and trimester attendance. Pupils would attend two of three sessions while teachers choose to teach two or three terms. Rest Home Supervision Is New Plan
Eleven state health organizations form the Ohio Accreditation Board to supervise nursing homes and raise conformity with standards. Mrs Eurelia Weidig of Cincinnati, president of the Ohio Nursing Home Association, announced the board on Monday and said first accreditation certificates may be issued by mid April. The executive committee meets in Columbus February 20 to hire an expert to start surveys of homes already seeking accreditation.

Elderly siblings found frozen in heatless Meigs County home
Frank R. Humphrey and Miss Mary Humphrey, an 86 year old man and 77 year old woman, were found in their frigid residence near Carpenter after eight days without heat. They suffered frozen feet and exposure. Mary was barefoot and treated as fair, Frank’s feet were frozen but stable. The remote location and lack of aid prior to discovery were noted by officials.
