Washington AP reports that Congress shows backing for the Army’s push for more manpower as selective service data indicate over one million single men of draft age remain deferred due to occupations, marking a home front victory in mobilization efforts.
Major Gen. Lewis B. Hershey, selective service director, said deferments for men with children should not outrank drafts of single men or married men without children.
