Gilligan Backs Appalachia Development Plan

Ohio Governor John J. Gilligan told a Senate subcommittee that the Appalachian development program has spurred major improvements across 28 southern Ohio counties. He supported the Randolph-Cooper bill to retain the program, noting over 250 million dollars invested and 19 hospitals, 6 vocational schools, and 70 miles of highways built. The program reduced unemployment in 23 counties and boosted buying income in 19, yet Gilligan warned growth still lags behind the nation.
