Smith a 21 year old Newark gunman was sentenced in Federal District Court to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to kidnapping He forced two men to drive a getaway car following a wine shop robbery for 48 Smith said he had nothing to say except he was guilty and later told reporters I got 50 years I got nothing to say He had been released from Mansfield Reformatory days earlier and was captured in Indiana Smith said he hated society and felt society owed him a living.
Weeping Water Nebraska officers linked Allen Paul Melson to a Monday night bank robbery at Corn Growers State Bank in Murdock. Police recovered 1292 dollars sewn into a rag doll belonging to Melson’s 3 year old daughter after his confession. The 29 year old quarry worker reportedly told police his wife sewed the money to hide it.

Officials reiterate Gouzenko offered no new details during the rendezvous in eastern Canada.
