Funeral services planned for Elihu Root at Hamilton College
Hamilton College in Clinton New York will host funeral services Tuesday for Elihu Root age 92 former secretary of war and secretary of state. Root died Sunday morning at his apartment after bronchial pneumonia. A New York senator from 1904 to 1915 he helped found the World Court and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1912.

In Ohio over the weekend fifteen people died in automobile crashes across the state. Akron residents Joe Damoris aged 3 and Paul Bodahely aged 25 perished in a collision on Route 422 near Coltville. Joseph L Pickering age 90 died at his home at 10 South High Street Saturday night after a brief illness. Funeral services by the Knights Templar will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with burial in West Union Cemetery. He was born to Samuel and Katherine Pickering and was the last of seven brothers who helped settle Southeastern Ohio. He enlisted in the 7th Ohio Volunteer Infantry at age 15 and later served in the 141st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He witnessed Stonewall Jackson at Harper’s Ferry and helped defend Athens County from Morgan’s raiders in 1864.
