Athens County authorities hold Flossie Kimble a 2 year old mother to answer for the death of her nine day old daughter drowned in Licking Creek north of Newark. Officials say she threw the infant into the water and may face murder charges if the body is found.
William J. Ruof, 45, ex vice president of the First Central Trust Co. in Akron, was sentenced in Cleveland to 16 years in prison and a $24,000 fine after pleading guilty to eight of 18 counts in an embezzlement case. Reported shortages reached as high as $45,000. The judge also imposed two year terms and $3,000 fines on remaining counts.
Bank robbers in Kansas City killed Patrolman O. B. Carpenter and beat Patrolman Ed Young during an attempted robbery at the Mercantile Trust Company. The bandits, armed with two machine guns, fled after spreading gunfire at the entrance as officers investigated noises from the vault. Young survived with injuries.
Cyril Oxley age 28, Ohio University class of 1926 graduate, died Sunday at his Youngstown home after a several years illness. Body to be taken to Athens tonight then Dowler's Funeral Home with burial Wednesday. Son of Patterson Oxley of Youngstown, survived by brother R W Oxley and sister Mrs Clara Chalfant. He was a Theta Chi member and cornet player in OU Band and in a Youngstown orchestra.
In Columbus, six men and a woman were detained by police in connection with the fatal shooting of Jesse Brooks, 23, allegedly killed during a party where several attendees were intoxicated.
Anton Urban, 45, is indicted for the murder of his ex-wife Anna Urban, 40, in Brunswick on December 7. Urban confessed after long questioning and claims self-defense, saying she fired first with a revolver. he shot her in the head. Cleveland detectives provided key information leading to his arrest.
At the World Disarmament Conference Britain and France proposed plans. Sir John Simon urged retaining the Washington and London naval treaties to 1936 and expanding disarmament on that base. Andre Tardieu called for reductions with four conditions including security and mutual obligations.
The House Agriculture Committee rejected a bill authorizing distribution of 40 million bushels of Federal Farm Board wheat to feed the unemployed. The vote was 14 to 9 against the proposal, with party lines divided as announced by Chairman Jones.
