Washington February 6 Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously approved Democratic amendments to the administration work relief bill worth 4.88 billion dollars. The committee voted after reports that a proposed dole substitution had a tied vote.
The Ohio Pastors' Convention debated a wide social and legislative program on its third day in Columbus. A sterilization resolution and a county option liquor bill were adopted while United States Senator Gerald Nye pledged munitions industry restrictions. Homer C. Selby of Portsmouth was re elected president of the Ohio Council of Churches.
Huey Long plans to become president of the United States and spread his dictatorship nationwide, according to the Square Deal Association. The group forecasts Louisiana dictatorship destruction and calls Long’s court hearing a political show, while noting opposition to his power.

Northern Ohio endures a heavy snow blanket causing three deaths. A truck crash near Franklin left two men burned to death in a coal load fire. In Marietta a car skidded into the Muskingum River, drowning a man. A Norwalk bus accident injured twenty passengers but left none dead.
Dallas authorities intensified efforts to arrest Raymond Hamilton once called the South West’s most wanted hoodlum. They gained momentum from the capture of his brother Floyd Hamilton in Shreveport Louisiana and reports that Raymond was seriously wounded during a recent escape attempt. Floyd says he did not accompany Raymond in the breakout.
Rear Admiral Richard Byrd and the second Antarctic expedition depart Little America for home after more than a year of observations and photographic work. The crew, aboard the Bear of Oakland, began from Boston on Sept. 25, 1933, with supply ship Jacob Ruppert following. The mission aimed to map ice recession, assess natural resources, sound ice depth, and study cosmic rays for weather and navigation advances.
The Athens postmaster race opened officially today as Civil Service Commission papers arrived at the Athens Post Office. Applications must be filed in Washington by February 1. The four page forms ask about education, training, and experience and applicants are not examined in person. Eligibility requires US citizenship, good health, residence within the delivery area, and at least one year here. Age 30 to 60, with wartime veterans’ benefits. Scores total 100 with 20 for education and 80 for experience and fitness plus 5 bonus points for veterans.

Columbus February 6 Ohio prison investigator Franier Reams adjourned an inquiry into Ohio Penitentiary after a clash with D B Ulrey law partner for Preston FE Thormas. The unrest followed jeers aimed at Premier Flandin and Police Prefect Langeron during a memorial service for 19 dead in the city a year earlier.
