President Roosevelt asked Congress for 4.0 billion dollars in cash and 210 million in contracts for the Navy. Guadalcanal dispatches describe Japanese ships near Shortland Harbor and possible reinforcements. no landings confirmed. Ohio Highway department data show a 23 percent drop in motor vehicle travel on rural highways outside cities in 1942. With reduced speeds, the department estimates about 300 lives saved, noting 550 rural fatalities and 10,979 accidents in 1942 versus 869 fatalities and 16,268 accidents in 1941.
The Fifth District Court of Appeals upheld the May conviction of Sadie Cook 42 for second degree murder in the fatal shootings of Armando Gonzales 27 and Nick Rosetti 25. Cook received a life term in the State Reformatory at Marysville.

The plan covers farmers producing 90 to 110 percent of quotas for essential foods and crops with acreage basis for white navy beans and yield schedule for potatoes.
Harry C. Lecklider aged 59 of Cleveland was killed when he fell from a bridge after stepping off a New York Central train at the depot. The incident occurred today and investigators reviewed the station area for clues.

Washington Senator Thomas D Okla predicted the war would force many city folk back to the farm and could cause a food shortage already evident. He said shortages should be shared, with civilians bearing the brunt while keeping soldiers fed.
Major James H. Doolittle awarded three Ohio pilots for their role in the North African campaign against the German air force. The honorees were Col. Thayer S. Olds of Warren, Capt. Ralph J. Watson of Canterbury, and First Lieutenant Charles N. Earnhart of Lebanon.
