John W. Harvey state purchasing agent resigns effective Feb. 15 at Gov. Thomas J. Herbert’s request. Harvey, from Wapakoneta, says he was fired without reasons given. Herbert, speaking in Cleveland, says he is not satisfied with purchasing division efficiency.
Louisville Kentucky reports burley tobacco sales fell to 1 200 067 pounds across six markets. Farmers earned 519 513 43 dollars, averaging 43 29 per hundredweight, down 39 cents from last Friday’s average.

Firemen said a gas line leak caused a Sunday night blast that wrecked a house killing 18 month old Sharon Anne Ross and injuring three others. Ruth Ross 24 mother of the deceased infant and Ida Vencesile 75 were in critical condition at Mercy Hospital Marion Vernier 27 of Louisville was in serious condition at Aultman Hospital.
Prosecutor Crason Hoy said he would seek a retrial of Ova B. Cornett 46 before a new jury. A first trial on first degree murder charges ended with a deadlocked foreman. Cornett is charged in the robbery slaying of Thomas Wilson 81 on December 1. His nephew Elmer Cornett 21 of Otas Ky has been convicted and sentenced to death.

Beach 22 accused of murdering Sheila Ann Tuley 8 in Cleveland New Year’s Night. Beach pleads not guilty by reason of insanity to a first degree murder charge.

The Baughman Apple Storage near Albany burned down yesterday afternoon causing an estimated 10 000 to 12 000 dollars in damage. Owners Earl and Mrs. Baughman report only partial insurance coverage and suspect wiring as the cause. Wendell Baughman was slightly burned while moving a tractor from the blaze. Over 1 000 bushels each of apples and grain were lost along with tools and insulation rock wool. a nearby combine shed also suffered damage.
