President Roosevelt rebuked a report that the United States has placed a defense frontier on the Rhine calling it a deliberate lie. He outlined U.S. policy opposing entangling alliances while supporting world trade and disarmament efforts.
Ohio State Highway Director Robert S. Beightler faced a protest from the Congress of Industrial Organizations Highway Workers Union after he replaced 14 Perry County department employees. Beightler insisted state work decisions rest with him, warning the union not to dictate staffing. He noted the 14 new hires were brought in to boost efficiency.

Dr Norman Stewart a 34 year old University of Pittsburgh dental graduate confessed to the hammer knife slayings of his wife Mary Louise and four year old son Norman Stewart III. He told Dist Attorney Andrew T Park he bludgeoned and stabbed his wife and garroted and clubbed his son on June 14 1935 after returning to Pittsburgh from Jacksonville Florida where he allegedly stole 300 dollars to finance the trip.
Former Oregon senator Frederick Steiner died at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington. The report notes his service in the U.S. Senate and his residence prior to his illness.
In Syracuse New York rescuers battled to reach seven firemen buried as a four story warehouse burned from an undetermined origin. Acting Chief Thomas Dugan and six other firefighters were identified among the missing with three others injured.
