Washington February 2 An offer of one billion dollars for the Ford plant was made by Hornblower and Weeks of New York within the last 30 days, testified John W Prentiss in the Couzens tax appeal case. Francisco Gonzales alias El Indio, notorious killer of a boy in 1925, was executed by garrote in Santiago prison. The sentence was carried out eleven minutes after the noose tightened and Gonzales died.
Peter Darst of Pomeroy receives a $6000 government check as remaining compensation for Albert Darst who died in France from influenza. The beneficiary, Mrs. Darst, has died, and the administrator will divide the funds among legal heirs. Peter Darst gets one half while the rest goes to Albert Darst’s brothers and sisters.
Skeletons of a mother and her four adopted children, buried a decade ago, were uncovered in a long untold grave. Local investigators, aided by forensic teams, are piecing together the family’s fate and possible suspects. Officials say more clues will determine whether foul play occurred.
In Whittier California investigators uncovered a mass grave beneath a dining room floor linked to George Hassel the Texas wholesale murderer. Skeletons of Mia Vogel Marie Vogel and three adopted children were found piled with rope fragments on necks and rotted cloth on one. Hassel had admitted living as George Baker in Texas awaiting an inquest into the family slayings.
Canton report: two men died and a woman injured seriously when a car collided with a streetcar at an intersection. John Farrell Smith, 49, died en route to a hospital. an unnamed male passenger died after reaching the hospital. Mrs. Mary Grabosky, 40, fractured hip and internal injuries. She says the men accosted her and forced her into the auto.
In Kenton on February 2 a jury determining fifty witnesses over six days found odors and noises from the Farmers' Union stockyards not detrimental to health rest or peace. Marie Lints sued for 10000 damages in common pleas court claiming discomfort from the atmosphere. The jury ruled for the stockyard interests.
James Moore, 20, son of Mr and Mrs Harry Moore, was seriously injured when a motor crept under a coal car at the Hocking mine in The Plains yesterday afternoon. He lay unconscious beneath the car for some time before rescue, then was rushed to Sheltering Arms hospital. He suffered internal chest injuries and facial and shoulder lacerations. Moore, a former Ohio University student, was working in the mine to resume his education.
