Woolworth Store to Close as New 500000 Outlet Planned
The F W Woolworth Co store on S Court Street ends operations at 5 p.m. Friday amid razing of three nearby buildings for a new 510,000 dollar Woolworth store. Ralph L Miller, longtime manager, says completion is targeted for August 15 with 51,000 square feet of space and a 9 foot Court Street frontage. The plan includes a restaurant and 22 current employees will be laid off temporarily before transfer to the new outlet.

Veterans May Revert to Old Pension Law Option
Athens County veterans officer C. J. Josten says veterans or widows affected by higher social security payments can switch back to the old pension law. The Veterans Administration ruled the change is allowed for those who moved to the new law only because of the 10 percent social security exemption.
