Perry County officials elected next year will see higher salaries under a new scale approved by the Ohio Legislature. The plan raises pay for auditor to 5300, treasurer 4950, sheriff 5100, clerk of courts 5200, recorder 4900, commissioner 3300, prosecuting attorney 4300, engineer 6950, and coroner 1100, costing nearly 7000 extra annually.
NEW LEXINGTON The last will of David Irvin Smith of Reading township leaves his wife Mary M Smith the entire estate valued at about 20000 in real estate for life with remainder to their two children share and share alike. Mary serves as executor without bond. Minta Myers will in Perry County probate leaves Oscar Ridenour 4 of residue and Myrtle Thompson rest. Oscar to be executor without bond. Estate valued about 7100 in personal and real property.
William F. Zeigler 58 Summit Station driver of a northbound tractor trailer and Marion C Stage 58 New Lexington operator of a southbound car met on a curve 3.6 miles south of Corning. Left front ends collided. Zeigler filed charges in county court for being left of center.
Bert Judson age 62 died after a short illness at St Elizabeth Hospital on December 24. A former Glouster resident, he lived in Dayton for 18 years. Survived by wife Lillian two daughters Julia Spencer and Pauline Brooks all of Dayton two granddaughters three sisters and one brother. Funeral services held at Hoyne Funeral Home with burial at Woodland Cemetery Dayton.
Shawnee schools closed last Monday due to a water shortage. One well ran low and another pump failed, highlighting the need for Burr Oak water to be piped in February.
Glouster area residents hosted and visited many relatives and friends for Christmas. Guests included Detroit's Mrs. Francis Kelly, Marion guests for turkey, and Columbus, Newark, Dayton, and Pittsburgh travelers. Several local couples entertained, with extended families from Basil, Goose Bay Labrador, and Charlotte.
No injuries as a Corning school bus driven by H. D. Post slipped into a ditch then slid across the road hitting a cement wall while a wreck truck attempted to pull it free. The event occurred with no pupils aboard. In Athens County, John E. Savel reports a $12.18 check from Buchtel York school, boosting the Christmas Seal Fund drive total to $301.27 from schools.
